How beneficial are electric vehicles?

With the development of technology, electric vehicles have become one of the main sources of transportation. These days, a controversial argument has come to the surface about whether electric vehicles are better for the environment or not. The supporters argue that electric vehicles are better for their benefits. While the opposition believes that electric vehicles are a safety hazard. In sum, the issue is whether it is a better substitute for fossil fuel vehicles for the environment or if it is just a safety hazard. In my perspective, electric vehicles are better for the environment, are popular due to their positive impact on the environment, and have so many environmental and social benefits. Though I am aware of the safety hazard problem, I still believe that electric vehicles have a huge impact on saving the environment and should be the main transportation vehicle for their benefits towards the environment and in general. In view of the fact that the safety hazard problem can be solved as electric vehicles are still in trials and being developed.

Firstly, electric vehicles reduce gas emissions and air pollution. As mentioned in the atmospheric environment journal, emissions from traffic are one of the reasons that can lead a person to get ill from the increasing production of greenhouse gasses that are associated with climate change (Requia et al., 64). Additionally, the effects of greenhouse gas emissions on public health have suggested that the current transportation system is not sustainable. However, they also mentioned that electric vehicles are a promising technology that has the potential to revolutionize the world’s transportation industry by introducing more sustainable and ecologically friendly mobility options that can help lower air pollution, greenhouse gas emissions and health hazards, (Requia et al., 65).  And as one of the nations attempting to lower gas emissions. The IEEE journal noted that the United Kingdom has committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. And Germany has set a goal of becoming greenhouse neutral by 2045 (Tirunagari et al., 114657). Electric vehicles are a promising technological advancement that can lower air pollution and health hazards. Some countries in Europe, like Germany and the United Kingdom, have set an objective to reach net-zero emissions by 2045 and 2050.

Also , fossil fuel vehicles are one of the main reasons for air pollution, and in the applied energy journal, it was mentioned that to control the air pollution, technology makes it easier to find affordable ways to reduce air pollution, such as cutting or reducing fossil fuel consumption by alternating to low emissions technology (Wang et al., 245). They also proved that by using electricity, wet flue gas desulfurization can be used in power stations that burn coal to generate electricity to manage the SO2 emissions, and reducing SO2 and NOx emissions could be accomplished by using more non-fossil fuels (Wang et al., 248). Moreover, the energy journal showed us that some cities had the greatest reduction in greenhouse gas emissions because of their usage and dependence on electric vehicles (Ajanovic and Haas, 1454). Technology has the potential to lessen air pollution, which is mainly caused by fossil fuel vehicles. In addition, electric vehicles can be used to reduce SO2 and NOx emissions. And due to the reliance on fossil fuel vehicles, several cities have experienced the greatest reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.

Secondly, renewable energy in electric vehicles. Electric vehicles are fully dependent on the use of renewable energy sources. Where the journal of hydrogen energy stated that batteries are used  by pure electric power instead of fuel. And this also proves the first point: that by using renewable energy, it limits CO2 gas emissions. And to reduce the usage of coal and gas, they also stated that renewable energy will be used even more than now, and it will be one of the significant sources of  regenerative hydrogen and hydrogen produced from nuclear sources (Wilberforce et al., 25696). Moreover, for renewable energy, Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews mentioned that some electric cars can use parking lots to solar charge their electric vehicle, which is one of the most beneficial renewable energy sources, and depending on the location’s solar power yield and the distance the vehicle will travel, the solar electricity produced in a parking space can power an electric car 75–100% of the way (Nunes et al.). Furthermore, electric vehicle charging stations are available everywhere. From what I saw in the Middle East, especially in Qatar and the UAE, I found a lot of charging stations available in malls and around the cities. In Qatar, there are stations in the Doha Festival City, and in Musheireb. In the UAE, there are way more charging stations than in Qatar. There is in Dubai Mall , City Walk, Dubai Design District, and many more places. So, renewable energy is essential for electric vehicles, as it limits CO2 gas emissions and reduces the use of coal and gas. Solar charging is also a beneficial renewable energy source, and electric vehicle charging stations are available everywhere.

Moreover, smart charging is also considered as a renewable energy source, but it is still under trial. And according to the IEEE journal article, they concluded that smart charging has a number of economical and environmental advantages (Tirunagari et al., 114670). They also mentioned the variety of benefits that smart charging has. Firstly, network congestion can be reduced by properly controlling the charging of electric vehicles. They referenced research conducted by a French TSO that determined smart charging might reduce the negative effects of unreliable electric vehicle charging and be used as a flexible resource for the development of renewable energy sources and the decarbonization of the transportation sector (Tirunagari et al., 114664). Additionally, smart charges maximize the use of renewable energy sources, reduce energy waste, increase the grid load factor, and promote the use of fully charged electric vehicles for environmental reasons (Tirunagari et al., 114664). Also, the survey discovered that some regions have significantly advanced toward smart charging. What I concluded from this argument is that smart charging is a renewable energy source with economic and environmental advantages. It can reduce network congestion, maximize the use of renewable energy sources, reduce energy waste, increase grid load factor, and promote the use of fully charged electric vehicles for environmental reasons.

Not only do electric vehicles help the environment, but they could have many other benefits, like reducing noise pollution. One of an electric engine's most important characteristics, according to the Applied Acoustics journal, is that it is quiet, which reduces noise pollution in urban areas. (Campello-Vicente et al.). In addition, the energy journal mentioned that issues connected to air and noise pollution could be lowered by operating zero emission battery electric vehicles, (Ajanovic and Haas, 1451).  And another benefit is that electric vehicles are cheaper than fossil fuel vehicles. The energy journal said that high gasoline prices and low electricity prices might encourage people to switch to electric vehicles,  (Ajanovic and Haas, 1454). Also, electric vehicles are cheaper to maintain. In relation to my previous point, smart charging helps reach financial goals, like lowering generation costs, and it has a socio-environmental goal, which is the reduction of carbon dioxide and greenhouse gas emissions, which is related to my opening claim.(Tirunagari et al., 114664). Several benefits can be obtained from electric vehicles, including less noise pollution and cheaper prices compared to vehicles powered by fossil fuel vehicles.  Financial and socio-environmental objectives, such as lowering generation costs and cutting carbon dioxide and greenhouse gas emissions, are achieved with the help of smart charging.

In conclusion, electric vehicles are indeed a promising technology that is beneficial and has a positive impact on the environment, society, and finance. Electric vehicles give the environment and its sources time to be restored, as evident through their various features. such as the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, the management of coal and gas burning, alternating with zero-emission batteries, reducing the use of fossil fuels, and renewable energy. and what we can benefit other than environmentally: electric vehicles reduce noise pollution, generation costs, and energy waste. As we can see, the benefits of electric vehicles outweigh the drawbacks. Therefore, I still believe that electric vehicles should be the main source of transportation as time goes by. As it would lead to a clean and sustainable future.
