Kahramaa Awareness Park
Kahramaa awareness park opened in April 2017, as mentioned on The peninsula Qatar website. The former president of the interior, his highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani launched the park (Kahramaa Awareness Park Opens, Bukhari, 2017). Moreover, the park seeks to highlight modern technologies that can intensify our way of life.This place has a significant impact on educating school students because of its five main characters, which tell a story and make people aware of the park's objective, and educate the people with knowledge. According to the interviewer, there are five main characters in the park. The first one is “نبض”-”Nabdh”, which means heartbeat, and the character is the earth because the earth gives us the ground resources. The second character is “قطورة”- “Qatora”, which means a drop and it is referred to as a drop of water. The third character is “كهروب”- “Kahroob”, it is translated to electricity, and the character is a globe-led bulb. The fourth character is “موفر”-”Mwafeer”, which means saver, and it is a twisted fluorescent lamp and it is an energy-saving light bulb. And the last character is “حياة”-”Hayat”, which means life and the character is a leaf. Each character tells a story and has a purpose for existing or a purpose to the awareness park. Earth is the mother planet with all the other four characters, if something happened to the earth, all of the other characters would be infected, earth is the heartbeat of the other characters. educates people on how water is made and how to conserve it, making them aware not to waste water. The globe-led light bulb Kahroob is used as a source of light. The saver is named like that because it saves more electricity than the regular light bulb. The I love Qatar Website mentioned that Kahramaa awareness park is located in Althumama-Qatar (Opening of Kharamaa’s Awareness Park Delayed, 2014). Also, according to the I Love Qatar Website and a personal interviewer with a park guide, The building was built with environmentally friendly materials and sustainable materials that can be taken and put in another place(Opening of Kharamaa’s Awareness Park Delayed, QNE,2014), (Personal Interview With Park Guide). As the interviewer mentioned to us, the parking lot shade-covers have solar sheets on each cover to help in gaining energy and save it to reproduce it in different ways. She also informed us that; the park has wind turbines that generate electricity.
Moreover, she showed us that the building has green roofs that release fresh air, and from our point of view, it also gives an appealing look to the building. Additionally, surrounding the park, there are a few light decorations that depend on the solar system; each light has a solar sheet on top of it. Furthermore, the water fountains outside the building reuse the same water disposed to the sump to conserve water, known as gray water. Also, In front of the building, there is a giant flower made from solar sheets, designed to the shape of a sunflower; the flower cleans itself from dust, and the petals close at night because there will be no energy to observe. The interviewer showed us that, as soon as someone enters the building, the people are greeted by Nabedh and the Qatora, and on their left, is a small figure of the whole park. And when they keep going, they will go into a room, and the person will see signs of what they are maintaining in the building and recycled trash bins used to decorate the place. And in the same room, there is a virtual reality “VR” of older people that reflects what went hard in each of their lives. While the older man struggled with light because they did not have electricity, and they got their light source from burning gas, the older woman had struggled with how hard it was to collect water in the past, and both of them told a thoughtless story that they remember from their childhood. In the park, the Tarsheed festival is a yearly event that is put on by Kahramaa park, which is the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation. The "Rail" railway excursion is one of them; while traveling it, tourists watch a 3D animated screen show about the history of water, beginning with its beginnings and ending with its significance in modern times. Additionally, we are introduced to a number of characters who represent different materials and how they are linked to water throughout the course of the program. In Kahramaa’s Awareness Park in the water station there is Al-Jazari’s Pump. The reciprocating pump was designed by Al-Jazari and the park needed to educate us about him and his invention for the big impact and change that he had for the society that made them produce more water. This is the model designed by Bediuzzaman Al-Jazari, an Arab Muslim scholar who is considered one of the greatest engineers, mechanics, and inventors in history. He shows how he solved the problem of water rising from the river into higher channels by using a crank, double-acting cylinders, and a draw-pipe, all his own invention (Information Found In The Museum, Park Guide ). Inside Kahramaa Awareness Park there is a section called the Energy section. The two main characters of this section are Kahroob and Mwafeer. Kahroob is replaced several times and does not save. Mufeer lasts and saves 80% as the tour guide told us. There is a Van de Graaf generator in Kahramaa’s Awareness Park; this generator can generate up to 500,000 volts. Visitors come to see Van de Graaff’s generator in person and to try the most interesting thing in this section (Energy Section). Kids place their hands on the generator’s sphere, while the generator is generating the upper sphere. The electric chargers that have been building up there will reject each other and transfer onto their bodies. Children's hair may stand on end when their bodies are adequately charged because the electric charges on the hair reject one another. Since very little current flows through their bodies, they will not be hurt. Visitors, especially young ones, really love trying this experiment, because they love how their hair stands up. There is a dome called carbon footprint. The carbon footprint dome is a circular, lattice dome with four smart devices in the middle of the dome. There are two large screens on both sides. Smart devices calculate the carbon footprint of each person, by asking some questions and visitors must answer them. The pattern of questions asked to visitors, especially about their lifestyle and daily routine. At the end of the questions, the percentage of this person's carbon footprint on this planet appears on the screen. Hence, if your carbon footprint is increasing you must reduce it. There is an electronic screen through which you can change bad habits that increase the carbon footprint and replace them with better habits that help protect the environment (Personal Interview With Park Guide). After the carbon dome, there is a machine called "Teleport to the future". This time machine shows us what will happen in the future when the future of our environment becomes either for the better or for the worse depending on the percentage of your carbon footprint that you calculated previously. The question on which this machine is based is: “What will our world and you be like in the future as a result of what you have learned?” Then you click on (Begin Teleport). Then the machine captures an instant photo of you and your group. This machine has advanced features that allow you to send these pictures to your mail and then print them from your own device (This Based On Personal Experience, Park Guide).
The children and young people of Qatar served as inspiration for the construction of the Kahramaa Awareness Park, which was designed with the next generation of Qatari leaders in mind.
